Texas is home to a dedicated network of safety-net hospitals and health care providers  that help expand access to care for patients across the Lone Star State, especially in rural areas. These providers do everything they can to maximize limited resources to improve their community’s health and prosperity.

Here in Hunt County, Texas, where I live and practice family medicine, we have a disproportionate number of uninsured and underinsured residents. Our hospital, Hunt Regional Medical Center, relies heavily on the 340B program to provide medications to our patients in need. Without 340B these patients would suffer worse outcomes and return visits to the emergency department or hospital, placing a burden on them and the taxpayers who help subsidize our hospital.
